O USO DE SUBSTÂNCIAS PSICOATIVAS NA AVIAÇÃO CIVIL: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA THE USE OF PSYCHOACTIVE SUBSTANCES IN CIVIL AVIATION: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW
Conteúdo do artigo principal
ABSTRACT
This article presents and discusses publications retrieved through an integrative literature review on the use of psychoactive substances by aeronauts. The review examined publications addressing pre-employment toxicological testing, random testing and testing based on reasonable suspicion, the use of psychotropic medications, post-mortem findings related to illicit drugs, and educational strategies. Searches were conducted in the PubMed, LILACS, SciELO, and APA databases, considering open-access publications published between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2024, in Portuguese, Spanish, or English, with an abstract available in at least one of these languages. The PRISMA 2020 guidelines were used to organize and report the publication selection process. Of the 860 articles retrieved, 27 met the inclusion criteria. The studies addressed post-mortem toxicological examinations, random testing and testing based on reasonable suspicion, pre-employment examinations, the use of prescribed and non-prescribed medications, licit and illicit drugs, and ethical and confidentiality issues. The findings revealed a concentration of publications on studies related to the identification of psychoactive substances, particularly through toxicological testing, and limited availability of data on aeronauts currently engaged in operational duties. No included studies evaluating peer support programs were identified. The review identified gaps in the scientific literature on several of the topics investigated, highlighting the need for further research on the use of psychoactive substances in civil aviation.
Keywords: Aeronauts; psychoactive substances; toxicological testing; civil aviation; peer support.
