O IMPACTO DA PANDEMIA DO CORONAVÍRUS SOBRE A CONSCIÊNCIA SITUACIONAL E A TOMADA DE DECISÃO DE PILOTOS DE LINHA AÉREA THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC’S IMPACT ON THE SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND DECISION MAKING OF AIRLINE PILOTS

Resumo

A pandemia do coronavírus trouxe desafios variáveis para todas as empresas aéreas, sejam aqueles que são quantificáveis, no que tange os rendimentos obtidos, sejam também aqueles outros que afetam o desempenho de seus profissionais. Na aviação, um sistema de alta complexidade e risco, torna-se relevante que quaisquer fatores que afetam o desempenho do piloto, responsável por operar na última linha de defesa, sejam identificados e compreendidos. Este estudo analisou o impacto da pandemia do Coronavírus sobre a consciência situacional e a tomada de decisão de pilotos de linha aérea – habilidades cognitivas essenciais para a segurança da operação aérea. Identificou-se, através de uma revisão teórica qualitativa-exploratória, que a pandemia tem gerado efeitos sobre o desempenho destes profissionais – com este estudo analisando como estas consequências afetam este desempenho. Os resultados sugeriram que as consequências observadas na população geral durante a pandemia, como o estresse, fadiga, ansiedade e depressão, também representam ameaças aos pilotos de linha aérea. Grande parte dos tripulantes reportaram pioras em suas condições gerais – condições estas originadas pela pandemia que podem afetar suas habilidades cognitivas.

ABSTRACT

The coronavirus pandemic has brought variable challenges for all airlines, whether those that are quantifiable, in terms of income obtained, or others that affect the performance of their professionals. In aviation, a highly complex and risky system, it is important that any factors that affect the performance of the pilot, responsible for operating in the last line of defense, are identified and understood. This study examined the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the situational awareness and decision-making of airline pilots – cognitive skills essential for the safety of the air operation. It was identified, through a qualitative-exploratory theoretical review, that the pandemic has generated effects on the performance of these professionals – with this study analyzing how these consequences affect this performance. The results suggested that consequences observed in the general population during the pandemic, such as stress, fatigue, anxiety and depression, also pose threats to airline pilots. A large part of the crew reported worsening in their general condition – conditions caused by the pandemic that can affect their cognitive skills.
